Buyers are taking advantage of low prices increasing sales for the sixth consecutive month in January.  Single family homes are up 13 % and condo 74% when compared to the same month last year.

Myrtle Beach International Airport has landed a new non-stop flight to Grand Rapids Michigan.  The flight to Allegiants's new hub at Gerald R Ford International Airport in Grand Rapids starts April 30.  It will run on Mondays and Fridays.  The low cost carrier arrived in Myrtle Beach in 2009 with flights to Huntington WV and Allentown Pa and plans to resume those this spring.

The Myrtle Beach boardwalk is a bit closer to having sidewalk cafés after Tuesdays City Council meeting.  The provisions thus far are café seating outdoors can extend no further than 12 feet out into the boardwalk and the cafés can only be run by those who are already providing food services on site.  Pets and bicycles will be restricted before AM March 15 to Sept 15.

Grand Strand real estate showed a 24% increase in single family homes and a 57% jump in condos sales in December compared to the same time last year.    December marked the fourth month in a row with increased sales in the Grand Strand real estate market.  This is certainly a buyers market.

The Market Common won a design award from the International Council of Shopping Centers.  The McCaffery Investments development won the Silver award in inovative design and development at the 2009 US Design and Development awards.  Market Common has more than 40 shops and restaurants with apartments above them and is surrounded by housing, live-work townhomes, single family residences and $30 million of new lakes, parks and roads.

The Cypress Inn, a bed and breakfast in Conway and Divine Prime, an upscale steak house at the Market Common, were honored with the prestigious Four-Diamond Award by AAA.  The Cypress Inn has received the award for 12 consecutive years.  The Marina Inn at Grande Dunes and the Myrtle Beach Marriott Resort at Grande Dunes, both in Myrtle Beach, also received the honor.  AAA gives the Four-Diamond awards annually to hotels and restaurants in North America. 

The expansion at Myrtle Beach International Airport is a $90 million project and is expected to offer 400 construction jobs.  The project construction manager, MB Kahn, is helping small local contractors by holding seminars to provide information abut the project, requirements and the application process.

Real Estate sales in November were up from last year which marked a three month trend of increased sales here in the Grand Strand.  Single family homes were up 65% and condos 69% compared to November of last year.

The Coast RTA is expanding its services to Charleston.  The tentative route will start in December.  As of now the express shuttle will start in Conway , head to Broadway at the Beach, stop at Front Street in Georgetown, then continue to Charleston.  It is scheduled to run Thursdays and Saturdays.  Pricing will be $15 one way & $25 round trip with discounted fares for students at $10 & $15.

The Lighthouse Lagoon, a nautical themed mini golf course with a 65 foot lighthouse and sidewalk are planned for 700 N Ocean Blvd in Myrtle Beach.  It will be located by the mile long boardwalk between 1st and 14th avenues.  It will also include flower beds along Ocean Blvd, 3 three story waterfalls and will be the Strands first oceanfront mini golf course.

Condo sales were up 32% in August and homes 1% compared to last year marking the first time in two years that both single family and condo sales increased.  Each month is showing improvement based on statistics gathered from the Coastal Carolina MLS.

The City of Myrtle Beach installed two Web cameras to show viewers the area where the new boardwalk will be.  They are looking south from the 14th Avenue Pier & north and south from Plyer Park.

Positive trends continued in the Myrtle Beach area real estate market in August .  Condo sales jumped 27 percent over August 2008.  that is the third consecutive month that a segment of the Grand Strand market posted increases. 

A dedication ceremony September 3 will open the long awaited North Myrtle Beach connector bridge.  The parkway will go from Main Street in NMB, cross US 17 and the Intracoastal Waterway, and link with SC 31 & SC 90.  Started in 2005 the new road will reduce congestion on US 17 and travel time to SC31, the Carolina Bays Parkway.

The USA Triathlon has selected Myrtle Beach as the site of the 2010 USA Triathlon National Championship Festival.  The event is scheduled for Saturday November 6, 2010.  This first national championship held by an Olympic governing body in the Myrtle Beach area is expected to attract between 2,000 -3,000 athletes and several thousand spectators.
The multisport festival will consist of three separate races--USAT Long Course Triathlon National Championship, USAT Club National Championship and Myrtle Beach Sprint Triathlon --as well as the Multisport Festival & Expo.  The Long Course Triathlon requires all athletes to qualify to compete.  The Club and Sprint events are open to any athlete.

Housing construction posted a large increase in February.  The Commerce Department reported Tuesday that construction of new homes and apartments jumped 22.2 percent in February compared with January.  After the news, investors helped Wall Streets rally buying financial and home builder stocks.
